Introduction:
There’s something timeless and deeply emotional about Christmas music. For many, carols and hymns are more than melodies—they’re memories. They bring us back to our childhoods, to our families, to the people we’ve loved and lost. That’s exactly what this new Christmas album seeks to capture: not just the spirit of the season, but the soul of it.
Creating this album was a journey back in time. It was an opportunity to revisit the songs I grew up singing—at school, at home, with my family. These carols aren’t just festive background music; they’re emotional landmarks. Songs like “I Saw Three Ships,” “Good King Wenceslas,” and “Silent Night” were the soundtrack of my early years in Manchester. They weren’t just tunes; they were comfort, hope, and joy during modest, working-class Christmases.
This is the first time I’ve ever worked on a Christmas album, either solo or with my brothers. It always felt like something we’d do “someday,” but that day never seemed to come—until now. The process of recording these classics has been more than nostalgic; it’s been deeply reflective. Christmas is often the one time of year we allow ourselves to pause and think about the past—about the people we’ve lost, the struggles we’ve faced, and the blessings we’ve had. It’s a time of both celebration and quiet remembrance.
Growing up in Australia for part of my childhood added an unusual twist to the season. Imagine walking into a store in 100-degree heat and seeing Christmas cards covered in snow and sleighs. It was surreal but magical. That contrast—sunshine outside, snowy dreams inside—stayed with me. And perhaps that’s the essence of Christmas: the magic we create in our hearts, regardless of the world around us.
One of the most emotional elements of this album is a song that reflects on children suffering in war-torn countries. As artists, we have a responsibility—and an opportunity—to give voice to the voiceless. Music is one of the most powerful forms of emotional expression. When people hear these songs, especially those that touch on global suffering, I hope they feel seen, heard, and inspired to care.
We also recorded the vocals in a very hands-on, intimate way—face-to-face with the team, creating an atmosphere of connection and warmth. That energy comes through in the music. These songs are more than polished recordings; they are heartfelt tributes to the season and what it truly means.
To me, Christmas isn’t about expensive gifts or glossy advertisements. It’s about goodwill, reflection, and love. It’s a reminder that we should be kind and generous not just in December, but all year long. This album is my gift—a collection of songs that mean something, that bring people together, and that carry the magic of Christmas in every note.
Happy Holidays—and may the music remind you of what truly matters.
